I've been studying for about 9 months and in that "quite long period of time", (else then studying) I busy my life with becoming a brass player for Marching Band Waditra Ganesha (MBWG). But it's so sad that not many people see this community as I see. I personally think that being a part of MBWG gives me courage to push my limit and teaches how to fully understand the meaning of teamwork.
Undoubtedly, it takes time, of course, I know. But then, when I look back again, and rethink by my own, everything needs a sacrifice, doesn't they? You can't be rich, and handsome, and tall, and smart, and six-pack, and popular and etc in the same time. YOU CAN'T. You may be rich but then you're fat. You are smart and tall but then you're a nerd. There must be at least a single thing you lose in order to gain more and more. For me, I'd rather have less spare time then spending my whole semester just to stuck between table, chair, and books. Sorry if that's too personal and sentimental. But here we go the general ones. I just wanna share to you a little bit about my perspective of why we should take non-curricular activities and those reasons are listed below : 1. Develop your passion Your passion could be ANYTHING, and so does your activity. You can try joining gym if you love sport or probably enrolling to a choir team if you can't stop singing. You live your life with school, and it's passion what makes you alive. Stop forcing yourself to say (for example) "my passion is to read text books and therefore I should read them all everyday". That sounds horrible and seriously a wrong thought. Why? Because reading a book is not an option whether it is your passion or not, as a student, it is a must. But, don't get to much too. Give your brain a break. Let it relax for awhile. Read the books so that you master lecturers' materials, after that you can do things you like. So, make sure you understand what your passion is. Make sure you follow and develop it. 2. Improve your paradigm When you are in a community, then you will absolutely face different people. The bigger the community is, the more diverse people you will meet. This thing will be an important tool when you are about to a job. Not just it teaches you how to behave to a specific type of people, but it lets your mind open too. You will at the end discover that there are just so many solutions for a single problem. And the more diverse those solutions, the more improved your paradigm too. 3. Increase your productivity This is one of the most magical truth I've just found couple years ago. Have you ever felt so much tired that you couldn't even take a bath or do anything else than taking a long sleep? Let us just give an assumption that the condition is said to be 'too busy'. Whereas, in contrast, I have ever tasted also a moment of nothing to do. Sad to say, but in fact, I in spite ended up with unproductive days. I knew I had homework to finish but I kept telling myself that I still had so many times too. Laying and staring at my phone all day long, or making a plan without no execution; this is said to be, 'too relaxed'. So, in what condition you should actually get the most of your productivity? It's a time when you have perfectly balance your curricular and non-curricular activity. Means that you have enough energy to study and necessary time to play.
